Middle Grade Releases I'm Excited About

The last week I have heard about so many new and upcoming middle grade releases and I'm so excited. I don't know exactly when I'll get around to reading them all, but they're too good not to share all in one place!

Kaleidoscope by Brian Selznick - September 21, 2021 - I loved The Invention of Hugo Cabret (and the movie Hugo!) and the description of Kaleidoscope has me intrigued: "A ship. A garden. A library. A key. In Kaleidoscope, the incomparable Brian Selznick presents the story of two people bound to each other through time and space, memory and dreams. At the center of their relationship is a mystery about the nature of grief and love which will look different to each reader. Kaleidoscope is a feat of storytelling that illuminates how even the wildest tales can help us in the hardest times."

Willodeen by Katherine Applegate - September 7, 2021 - from the author of books I've loved like The One and Only Ivan and Wishtree comes "A timely and timeless tale about our fragile earth, and one girl's fierce determination to make a difference." Poison for Breakfast by Lemony Snicket - August 31, 2021 - True confession, I've not read any of the Series of Unfortunate Events. I might remedy that "unfortunate" situation, but in the meantime this newest book has me intrigued. I mean, read this quote from the book description, "Over the course of his long and suspicious career, Mr. Snicket has investigated many things, including villainy, treachery, conspiracy, ennui, and various suspicious fires. In this book, he is investigating his own death." Are you not intrigued??!?!

One Kid's Trash by Jamie Sumner - August 31, 2021 - I loved Roll with It and now I'm excited to read this newest book from Sumner that tells the story of a boy who uses his unusual talent for decoding people's trash to try to fit in at his new school. I mean, sounds odd, but could be interesting! I've definitely not read that premise before!

Sunny Days Inside by Caroline Adderson - August 3, 2021 - I heard about this book from Rab Ferguson on the Big Kids Book Club podcast. It's short stories about different residents in an apartment building and how they're responding to the pandemic. Sounds thought-provoking.

Into the Lion's Mouth by Nancy McConnell - September 7, 2021 - This historical fiction novel is a love letter to Venice. I got to interview Nancy recently and she's going to be on an upcoming episode of the podcast. I've actually already read this one, and loved it.

Spooked by A Suspicion by Risa Nyman - August 17, 2021 - the stand-alone sequel to Swallowed by a Secret. Rocky is starting a new school year and his mom is planning on getting re-married. Rocky finds a mystery to solve and he must do it fast, before his mom makes a mistake in marrying this guy!
